Culpeper Water Service Replacements
Let’s answer the first question that probably is on your mind: Yes! At Culpeper Home Services, residential water service repair and replacement is our thing. We repair and replace them all the the time- and like all of the plumbing services we offer, we do it right. We have many different methods to repair them (including trenchless methods). And we’re good at it.
And your second BIG question: What about your warranty? As with all of Culpeper Home Services work, we offer the best warranties in the biz. Period.
The water service connecting your home to the municipal water supply is your first plumbing link to your home. It provides all the potable water to your home for drinking, cooking, cleaning, washing and flushing. This pipe can be referred to as your water main, water service or your water line. No matter what the name, your water service runs from the main shutoff valve inside your home to the pigtail on the county/city’s water meter. The water main must also be installed (in our area) at a minimum depth of thirty (30) inches in order to be below the frost line and keep from freezing. This pipe is typically made of copper, high-density polyethylene (HDPE), galvanized steel, or polybutylene (AKA poly-blue, poly or big blue). Copper and HDPE have proven to be reliable pipes for this purpose. Galvanized piping, which is no longer installed in residential applications, has a life expectancy of 50 – 70 years, but also deteriorates over time reducing water pressure and flow rate. Polybutylene piping has proven to be a failure and needs to be replaced.
Regardless of the type of pipe providing water to your home, when it fails, it needs to be repaired. You may have water bubbling up from the ground. Or you may not see any water, but your water bill just shot through the roof. Perhaps the water is seeping into your home. Maybe the city or county told you it’s leaking. That’s where we come in. Contact us and we’ll come to your home and provide a free estimate to repair or replace your water service.
How will we actually repair the water service? It depends. Every situation is a little different. Sometimes we simply dig a trench from the point your water service exits your home to the water meter. Other times, we may use trenchless methods. We can use a pulling cable to pull the new water service through the existing water service. We can also use a boring missile to go under obstacles such as driveways. We’ve also simply driven a hard copper pipe underneath obstacles like porches and steps. Our goal is to minimize damage to your landscape, hardscapes, sidewalks, driveways and home structure (anything expensive or inconvenient to restore).
